Many of us know how bad it feels to lose a pet. Not knowing where they are or what has happened is one of the most helpless and sickening feelings a person can have. Having a microchip implanted into a pet can alleviate some of that concern. Pets with a microchip will immediately be scanned by animal control and other rescue services. The information from the scan will have the owner's information and they will be contacted right away. Make sure to keep your information updated if anything changes.
The microchip is a tiny computer chip which has an identification number programmed into it and is encapsulated within a biocompatible material. The whole device is small enough to fit inside a hypodermic needle and can be simply injected under the skin of our pets, where it will stay for the life of the animal. This provides a permanent, positive identification which cannot be lost, altered or intentionally removed - a safe, simple and inexpensive way to protect your pet against loss or theft.
We have had many pets that were lost and then returned to their owners because of a microchip. It's also a good idea to have your pets microchipped for hurricane season in Florida. Click here to access more information about the microchips we use in our patients.
