Our Staff

Our four veterinarians, have a combined 100 years of experience. Dr. David Smith, has over 40 years of treating small animals including dogs, cats, birds, and exotic pets. His colleagues, Dr. Nan Rosenberry, Dr. Nicole Tisdale, and 
Dr. Dana Tashjian bring extensive experience to the office as well. In addition, all of our certified veterinary technicians are required to be licensed by the Florida Veterinary Medical Association. Our practice is accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association or the AAHA. Being AAHA Accredited means we are rated as 'Champions for Excellent Care'. This is a prestigious award only held by 12-15% of veterinary offices in the United States and Canada.

Each member of our staff is dedicated to keeping up with the latest in technology and information so that we can offer only excellence in both our services and our products. Our veterinarians work with each other and pet owners to collaborate and determine the optimum course of action for your furry friend.     David J. Smith, VMD
    Owner & Chief Veterinarian

    Dr. Smith has been practicing veterinary medicine for over 40 years and has owned Bay Road Animal Hospital since 1980. He has over 3 decades of veterinary experience, treating small animals such as dogs, cats, birds, and exotic pets.

    Dr. Smith was born and raised in Philadelphia. After graduating high school, he decided to attend nearby Ursinus College in Collegeville, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in 1969. He attended the prestigious University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine after completing his undergraduate work, graduating in the class of 1973.

    Nan Rosenberry, DVM
    Associate Veterinarian - Bay Road

    Dr. Nan Rosenberry earned her veterinary degree from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in Boston. She also has a BS from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. Dr. Rosenberry has lived in Florida and worked at Bay Road Animal Hospital since 1999. She and her husband, Steve, have a daughter, Allison.  Prior to becoming a veterinarian, Dr. Rosenberry was a Peace Corps Volunteer in Honduras and has travelled extensively in Central and South America. She has also lived in Idaho, California, Connecticut, and the Washington, DC area. Dr. Rosenberry is interested in all aspects of canine and feline medicine and surgery.

    Nicole Tisdale, DVM
    Associate Veterinarian - Honore & 17th

    Dr. Nicole Tisdale has been practicing veterinary medicine since 2003. A graduate from Purdue University’s School of Veterinary Medicine, “Dr. T” has a special interest in dentistry and genetics. Before Moving to Florida in 2011, Dr. Tisdale practiced medicine in both Indiana and North Carolina.

    Dr. Tisdale originally started a career in hotel management after undergraduate school, but decided to go back to school to pursue her true passion of veterinary medicine. She enjoys exploring the sunny beaches on the southwest coast of Florida with her family and social activities with her friends.

    Dana Tashjian, VMD
    Associate Veterinarian - Bay Road

    Dr. Dana Tashjian received her veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to that, she went to University of Maryland where she received her BS in Zoology. Dr Tashjian completed a 1-year veterinary rotational internship at California Veterinary Specialists in San Diego after finishing school. She stayed in San Diego and practiced medicine for 8 years after that. Dr Tashjian has been practicing part time at Bay Road Animal Hospital since moving to Florida in 2015, and came on full time in 2020.  Dr Tashjian and her husband share their home with 4 very spirited kitties. In her free time, she loves to exercise and travel
